Anna Radányi
Child Psychologist

I am a licensed psychologist and a DSZIT therapist in training. For 8 years I have been working with children and adolescents to help their personalities develop freely and for them to become emotionally healthier. With younger children I use playful, non-verbal tools, while with teenagers the conversation and creative methods together often support the shared work. I place great importance on close collaboration with parents, because children’s development always takes place within a relational context.

About Me
I am a licensed psychologist and a DSZIT therapist in training. I help children and adolescents to develop their personalities as fully as possible and to become emotionally healthier. In our shared work I collaborate closely with parents, because we all exist in a web of relationships in which we mutually influence one another. My therapeutic approach is characterised by unconditional acceptance and a practical, supportive perspective. With younger children (ages 3–10) I work with playful methods and non-verbal techniques, as this is how they most naturally express their inner world. During shared creative activities (drawing, painting, role play), the emotional conflicts that concern them emerge, and their tension is reduced. The sessions with children are accompanied by regular parent consultations, where we discuss experiences and possible next steps together. With pre-teenagers and teenagers, conversation and shared thinking become increasingly central, though they too often enjoy the various more creative therapeutic methods. At this age, young people particularly need to be able to share certain questions and difficult feelings with an external specialist in a non-judgemental, accepting atmosphere.
What can we expect from a therapy session? At the first meeting, for younger children I first consult with the parent alone, going through the child’s life history, different developmental phases, and current difficulties. For teenagers, parents and young people participate together in the first session. This is followed by three or four introductory sessions attended only by the children, during which the trust needed for later therapy sessions can form, and we can assess which areas we will need to work on together. If it becomes clear during the first sessions that the child needs a different type of support (special education teacher, child psychiatrist, etc.), I refer the family to the appropriate specialist. If we decide to work together, we agree on the frequency and duration of sessions, which — depending on the problem — may last from a few weeks up to accompanying someone through a difficult life situation.
